LHS HONORS CHORUS AUDITIONS

Last updated March 3, 2022.
Thank you for your interest in select ensembles at Lexington High School.  Our program is large and thriving, with a tradition of excellence in choral music.  While each chorus has its own personality and specialties, all singers in the high school program perform a wide variety of repertoire and work hard to improve their vocal skills and musicianship.  This page contains all of the information you need in order to audition for a select ensemble at the high school.

AUDITIONEES WILL SUBMIT VIDEO AUDITIONS THIS YEAR.
SUBMISSIONS ARE DUE BY 9PM ON FRIDAY, APRIL 1, 2022.
AUDITION RESULTS WILL BE SHARED VIA EMAIL AFTER APRIL VACATION.

ALL SUBMISSIONS WILL HAPPEN ON THIS GOOGLE CLASSROOM:

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

There are FIVE steps for your choral audition

(1)    COURSE REGISTRATION
In order to be eligible to audition, you must be registered for Chorus next year on Aspen. All students NEW TO THE PROGRAM must register for LHS Chorale. If you are placed in an honors chorus, your schedule will be updated to reflect this. If you are not placed in an honors chorus, you will be placed in Chorale. If you do not wish to be in Chorale, you may change your schedule at a later time. All students who are already participating in the choral program must register for THEIR CURRENT CHORUS, as per course recommendation on Aspen.

(2)    JOIN THE HONORS CHORUS AUDITIONS GOOGLE CLASSROOM

https://classroom.google.com/c/NDc1NTEwNzg0NjE5?cjc=6w55mgl

(3)    PREPARE AND RECORD A VOCAL SOLO
Choose a piece that shows the best of your Classical voice singing technique and demonstrates musical sophistication. You may sing a musical theater piece IF it is an example of Classical, LEGIT, HEADVOICE singing (example "My White Knight" from THE MUSIC MAN or "Out Of My Dreams" from OKLAHOMA). No belt songs or pop songs. As a last resort, you may sing a folk song or hymn. YOU MAY NOT SING "AMAZING GRACE". It is preferred that your vocal solo is accompanied by piano, rather than being sung a cappella. Some song suggestions, including those for which you can find accompaniment tracks on YouTube, will be posted in Google Classroom. Create a quality video of you singing your song and upload it to the Honors Chorus Auditions Google Classroom by 9pm on April 1. Late submissions will not be accepted.

If you auditioned last year, you would naturally be expected to choose a different song.

(4)     TONAL MEMORY EXERCISE

In lieu of preparing a choral excerpt for your audition, you will video record yourself listening to and echoing back the tonal patterns I play on the piano. You may sing on any neutral syllable of your choice. There are 10 patterns of varying degrees of difficulty on the recording. You are NOT to practice the patterns in advance, but listen and record them live. Plan to play the pattern recording on one device and video record yourself on another device. In order to make the process as fair as possible, the recording of the tonal patterns will be made available on the Auditions Google Classroom AT NOON ON THURSDAY, MARCH 31.

(5)        AUDITION FORM
Please fill out and submit the linked AUDITION FORM.  I am very much looking forward to hearing all of you sing!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via email.

Good luck!
